O n that morning the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not boarded it. And they remembered that the disciples had gone away without him. Also, other boats from Tiberias had come to see Jesus. Once they realized that Jesus and his disciples were gone, they got into the boats and sailed in search. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, how did you get here?”

Jesus answered, “Well, are you looking for me because you are fascinated with miracles? Or do you look for me because you ate the loaves and satisfied your hunger?” They were surprised at his question. “Too often you miss the point of my being among you. You concern yourselves with food that spoils. Be hungry for food that endures to eternal life instead, food which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal.”
